ComodoHacker, an Iranian 21 year’s student (claims to be one) admits and takes in credit for breaching the Dutch based company DigiNotar. The company issues SSL certificates for websites across the world. The hacker who began posting warnings on Pastelbin says, “He would continue the attack”. The post was posted under the name ComodoHacker. Comodo is also a SSL certificate issuing company, which he had hacked earlier this year.
SSL certificate is very important in terms of internet security components that are used mainly to encrypt the computer – website communication. This is the second SSL selling company the hacker has attacked in the same year.
The hackers had earlier described himself as an Iranian student, 21 years. However, this information is not confirmed until date. He has been giving interviews on the internet. The ComodoHacker said on Monday, he was responsible for breaching DigiNotar. He also revealed his attack was to avenge the Dutch Government for its actions in the Bosnian War. He also quoted saying, Serbian soldiers killed 8000 Muslims in Bosnian War.
Since the network of DigiNotar was breached, it has issued more than 500 fake SSL Certificates. DigiNotar’s Spokesman said, under the fake certificates nearly 300 thousand IP address might have accessed Google account. This is not good news for Google as it clearly shows that data interchanged with Google might have been captured.
